Waving the white flag was first performed in 2003 using a very long metal rod and white flag. Unfortunately no documentation from that performance has survived. Ten years later seemed like the right time to revisit and re-perform this work, this time Waving the white flag (2013) was performed for video, minus the rod/flagpole and with a significantly larger flag.

Waving a white flag has historically been recognized as a request for negotiation or surrender. The water is catching fire, the ground filling up with poison, and some of us are starving out the rest. Negotiations are needed.
