Buoy (underwater float)

Buoy (underwater float) mixed media on paper 41×30 inches 2022

The buoy pictured carries a child balanced to keep their head just above water, it floats underwater because the line tethering it to the bottom can no longer reach the surface as the  water rises. Eventually if the water continues to rise, and the anchoring weight is heavy enough, the line could snap setting it and it’s cargo adrift. If the line is strong and well tied, the buoy will remain tethered, suspended below the waters surface, no longer a visible marker capable of keeping connection to the surface, dependence upon it will become fatal. The work is a reflection on connection under impossible circumstances, on loss, and intergenerational  responsibility.
